Gary L. Smith, Sr., 74, of Palatka, passed from this life on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Solaris Health Care of Palatka following an extended illness. Born in Breckenridge, Michigan to Carlton B. Smith and Mae Sawvel Smith, he resided in Palatka for the past 47 years coming from Breckenridge. Gary worked as a mechanic for 30 years with St. Johns Chevrolet in Palatka. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was a member of Bass Masters and Roy Road Hunting Club. Gary also enjoyed bowling and racing (NASCAR) and was a Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Annette Smith and a brother, Gaylord Smith.
Gary is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen M. Smith of Palatka, 3 sons, Gary Lee Smith, Jr. (Debbie), Nathan Smith and Danny Smith (Sandra) all of Palatka, 7 grandchildren, Brandon Smith, James Smith, Taylor Smith, Gage Smith, Amber Nelson, Alex Smith and Cody Smith as well as a special niece, Kellie Hamman (Cleve) of Wheeler, MI.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with burial to follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M.
