John A. Eubanks, 90, of Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. He was born on the family farm in Greensboro (Gadsden County), FL in 1928 and was the son of Neadham and Flavie (McLane) Eubanks. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. John was a graduate of the University of Florida where he received his master’s degree. John came to Palatka in 1955 as an agricultural teacher at Palatka High School, retiring as Director of Vocational Adult and Career Education following over 30 years of service. He also served as Assistant County Agent in St. Johns and Putnam Counties. John served four terms (1978-1994) as a Putnam County Commissioner. He also spent several years farming on a small farm off Round Lake Rd. in Palatka. John was well known in the community for his knowledge of making cane syrup on his farm (“Knock’Em Out John”) as well as his generosity in sharing his vegetable crops. In addition to farming, one of John’s favorite past times was his love of turkey hunting. He was also a member of College Park Baptist Church.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Bradley Eubanks, his parents, a sister, Vernice Eubanks and two brothers, Floyd and Hugh Eubanks.
He is survived by two sons, Brad Eubanks (Jeri) and Bryan Eubanks (DeDe); four grandchildren, John Allen Eubanks (Joy), Nicole Owens (Brian), Lee “Lebo” Eubanks and Ryan Eubanks (Saharra); five great-grandchildren, Alison Eubanks, Jenna Eubanks, Rylee Eubanks, Traven Owens and Tinsley Owens; one brother, Mack Eubanks (Sandy); three sisters, Bernell Smith, Arlie Sprague, and Dole Richards; special friends and caregivers, Dana Graham, Tara Peeples and Marilyn Williams.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Francis Baptist Church with his nephew, Shep Eubanks and Pastor Pete Wilkinson officiating. Private burial will take place at a later time. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at 3:00 p.m.
