Obituary for Alvira Marie Griffis

Alvira Marie Griffis, 89, of Crescent City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at her home. She was born December 28, 1932, in Mosiertown, PA and had lived in Crescent City since 1984. Alvira was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and an active member of Anchor Baptist Church in Seville. Before moving to Crescent City, she was very active at Carmel Baptist Church in Mosiertown, PA where her late husband, Allison, pastored. While there she was choir director, pianist and organist. She also, along with her sister, Carol White, began an after-school Bible club for many children. In her leisure time, Alvira was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles, crocheting and playing the piano.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Allison Griffis, son, John Mark Griffis, parents, Claude and Nellie Davis, siblings, Raymond Davis, Ruth Little, Richard Davis, Ellen Dunton and Carol White.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Kline (Rick), LaVonne Wells (David), Karen Griffis, Darrel Griffis, and Lynette Lyden (Jack), sisters, Lillian Andrews and Betty Sheldon, grandchildren, Aaron Kline (Margaret), Jonathan Kline (Kristin), Charity Bailey (Jacob), Emily Kline, Bethany Leadbetter (Robert), Melissa Abbott (Dan), Kristi Hoogstad (Joe), Scott Batykefer, Corryn Mobley (Seth), Kristin Watson (Will), Chase Batykefer (Raiana), Nichole Falavolito (Dean), Daniel Dunfee (Jenna) and John Dunfee, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Crescent City with Bro. Larry Litzell officiating. Burial will follow in Eden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 am until time of services.
