Obituary for Ardrenn Miller Suttlemyre

Ardrenn Miller Suttlemyre, 89, of Fleming Island, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Ardrenn was born in Haines City, Florida on November 7, 1933, to Joseph Cabal Miller and Melita Van Fleet Miller. The family moved their timber business to Putnam County, Florida when Ardrenn was three years old and she would make Palatka her home for the next 50+ years. Ardrenn was part of a large extended Miller family, including grandparents, uncles, aunts and numerous cousins. Some of her fondest childhood memories included spending time with her many cousins enjoying family summers at Flagler Beach and visiting her beloved maternal grandfather, Richard Van Fleet at Lake Arietta in Auburndale, Florida. Ardrenn attended Mellon High School where she graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1951. It was while attending Mellon High School that she met the “love of her life”, Bill Suttlemyre. Following their first date, Bill told his parents he had met the girl he would marry. They wed on April 21, 1956 at St. James Methodist Church in Palatka and would remain together for 39 years until Bill’s death in 1995. Ardrenn attended Florida State University and as a sophomore, was President of the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She graduated from FSU with a degree in Elementary Education and taught at both Campbell and Moseley Elementary Schools. Bill and Ardrenn had four children together and made Palatka their home until 1987 when they moved to St. Augustine Beach. Ardrenn was a member of St. James United Methodist Church ‘s Ruth Circle and was also an active member of the Pilot Club of Palatka. In later years, Ardrenn took up painting and was a talented artist. She had a lifelong love of reading and kept a vast collection of books in her home. Ardrenn’s proudest accomplishment was her family. She was first and foremost, a beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Ardrenn is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Coy Suttlemyre.
She is survived by her four children, James William Suttlemyre, II (Shannon) of Olive Branch, MS, Julie Suttlemyre Perrine (Clyde) of Fleming Island, FL, Valerie Suttlemyre Tilton (Jim) of Lake City, FL and Billy Coy Suttlemyre, Jr. (Cheryl) of Jacksonville Beach, FL.
