On Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2021, Benjamin Hardin Stewart, Jr., 91, passed peacefully at Haven Hospice, Roberts Care Center, Palatka, Florida.

Born February 11, 1929, to Benjamin Hardin Stewart and Irene Giltner Stewart, Ben grew up with an older brother Robert and younger sister, Jean in Louisville, KY.

Ben graduated Du Pont Manual Training High School, Louisville, KY, Class of 1947. He later attended Speed School of Engineering, University of Louisville.

He married Lydia Louise Barmore November 5, 1949, Floral Heights Presbyterian Church, Louisville, KY. Two children were born to this marriage, Victoria Ann and Benjamin Hardin III.

As an enlistee, U.S. Army Reserve, 100th Training Division (Learning Development),“Century” Division, Fort Knox, KY, Ben earned Staff Sargent rank.

Having worked several railroad occupations in Louisville and Chicago, IL, Ben worked commercial construction with Barmore Construction, Louisville, KY, founded by his brothers-in-law Irvin and Paul Barmore.

After retiring construction, Ben and Louise relocated to Ocala, FL. In 2006, they relocated once again to Palatka, FL, joining First Presbyterian Church.

While in Ocala, Ben developed a creative hobby, designing and building many
stained glass panels and objects. He continued this hobby in Palatka, creating stained glass lampshades for his grandchildren Aubryn, Alexander, Lydia, and Levi.

Ben was preceded in death by both parents, Hardin and Irene Stewart, his brother, Robert, and in October 2010, his wife, Louise Stewart.

Surviving Ben are a daughter, Victoria Stewart Lewis (Mark) and a son, Benjamin Hardin Stewart III (Jane), five grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren.

At a later date, The Family will hold a Memorial Service for both Ben and Louise.
There are no public services planned at this time.
