Obituary for Carl Clement Beck Jr.

Carl C. Beck, Jr. died August 11, 2021, in Palatka Florida, where he has lived and worked for many years. Carl was born July 22, 1940, to Marie V. Eckstein Beck and Carl C. Beck, Sr in Indianapolis., Indiana. He was predeceased by his parents, his life partner Daryl Younker, PhD and by his nephew David T. Beck Jr., his godson.
He is survived by his sister, Janice Beck (John) O’Brien, Steven J. (Rita) Beck, and David T. (Jan) Beck, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and Craig and Mary Alexander and family as well as his beloved dogs, River, Beauregard and Buster. He will be greatly missed by all of his family!
Carl attended Sacred Heart Catholic grade school and Sacred Heart Central high school in Indianapolis and Xavier University in Cincinnati. He served briefly in the US Navy. Carl was a consummate entrepreneur, having worked in real estate, international travel and was the owner of numerous auto dealerships in Southern Illinois and Palatka as well as numerous other auto related businesses. He enjoyed helping young people get started in business and helped many young business people in the Palatka area. He received numerous business and community awards for his work in Palatka. Carl was involved in numerous civic organizations including as President of the Palatka Kiwanis Club, a member of Palatka Elks Lodge BPOE #1232 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #184. He likewise served on the Board of Trustees of St. Johns River State College, the Putnam County Humane Society, served in several different positions at St. Monica Catholic Church where he was a member as well as numerous other organizations through his career.
Carl loved being with his family and enjoyed all of his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Carl viewed everyone in the Beck Automotive family as just that – Family! He was and will remain in their hearts and minds as the “fearless leader” of the Beck Automotive Groups.
Carl loved to travel and had been to over 132 countries around the world. He was an avid auto race fan, attending over 50 Indy 500’s, and many NASCAR races and was a sponsor of several NASCAR drivers.
Carl had a great love of animals, especially his dogs, which through the years, were his constant companions.
Due to concerns with the Covid 19 pandemic, a private mass of Christian burial celebrating Carl’s life for family, close friends and business associates will be held. Others may view the services through the Facebook page of St. Monica Catholic Church beginning at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 13, 2021. For those attending the services in person, a mask or facial covering is requested. Additional services and burial will be next week in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, Carl’s wish was for donations to be sent to the S.A.F.E Pet Rescue of Putnam County, P.O. Box 188, Hollister, FL 32147.
