Obituary for Charles Virgil "Charlie" Creel

Charles V. “Charlie” Creel (84) of Palatka passed from this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Charlie was born on October 13, 1935 in Poplarville, MS to Virgil and Faynell (Strahan) Creel. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James, and one sister, Esther. Charlie is survived by his wife of 47 years, one daughter: Leigh Doran (Doug), two sons: James Alan Creel (Heather), Paul Creel (Wendy), and eight grandchildren: Mark Douglas Doran, Ruby Elizabeth Doran, Samuel Charles Doran, Beckham Paul Creel, Phinehas Paul Creel, James Alan Creel, Jr, William Walker Creel, Lila Spring Creel. Charlie will be dearly missed by his family who he adored – his children and grandchildren were his treasures. Charlie graduated from Pascagoula High School in Pascagoula, MS in 1953, he graduated from Pearl River Junior College in Poplarville, MS in 1955, he received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mississippi State University in 1958.
Upon graduation from Mississippi State, Charlie went to work at Ingals Ship Building in Pascagoula, MS. After two years at Ingals, Charlie embarked on an engineering career mostly in the pulp and paper industry that lasted forty-four years with companies such as Rust Engineering, BE&K Engineering, Georgia-Pacific Corp. The last sixteen years were at G-P at the Palatka Operations as Manager of Maintenance and Engineering.
Charlie was a member of F&AM Lodge No. 419, Pascagoula, MS, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Chattanooga, Orient of Tennessee , American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Association (TAPPI), St. Johns River Athletic Association (Pop Warner Football), Boy Scouts of America, Troop 62, Committee Member, Board of Directors of Rodeheaver Boys Ranch, First Baptist Church of Palatka
Services celebrating Charlie’s life will be at 10 o’clock in the morning on Monday, August 10th, 2020 at Palatka Memorial Gardens in Palatka with Pastor Eddie Parcher officiating. Burial will follow.
