Obituary for Charles Rollins "Charlie" Swain

Charles Rollins “Charlie” Swain, 91, of Palatka, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Silver Treasures of Orange Park Assisted Living Facility following an extended illness. A native of Roper, North Carolina, he resided in Putnam County (Palatka & Interlachen) since 1958 coming from Raleigh, North Carolina. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Charlie received his Master’s Degree in Education from East Carolina University and taught for 30 years in the Putnam District Schools at Interlachen High School and at Palatka High School. Charlie had also operated a photography business for 60 years. Among his hobbies were woodworking (building picture frames), traveling in his motorhome and working with his model trains. Charlie was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Interlachen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Swain and Mary Ainsley Swain.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine Nichols Swain of Palatka, 2 daughters, Laura Frederick of Jacksonville and Lesley Kerce (Larry) of Ft. McCoy, 4 grandchildren, Cate Nall (Joe), Michael Frederick, Emily Frederick and Jonathan Frederick as well as 4 great-grandchildren, Charlie Nall, Davey Nall, Isabelle Frederick and Eleanor Frederick.
Graveside services celebrating Charlie’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 5 ,2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery East in Palatka with Mother Diane Reeves officiating. No visitation is scheduled.
