Obituary for Cleave Alex "Lex" Tharp

Cleave Alex “Lex” Tharp, 65, of Interlachen, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at his home from natural causes. Born in Asheboro, North Carolina, Lex was in the Class of 1975 at East Montgomery High School. Following high school, he served honorably in the U.S. Navy. Lex had worked as an over-the-road truck driver for over 28 years. Lex located to Interlachen in 1997. He was a member of the College Road Church of Christ. In his leisure time, Lex enjoyed riding his motorcycle and listening to music, especially at the local Monday night Jam Sessions in Interlachen where he enjoyed the company of many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Tharp and Doris Bristow Overman, a brother, Eddie Tharp and a sister, Sandy McDonald.
Lex is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Renee “Stormy” Tharp of Interlachen, a son, Jeremy Tharp of Sanford, NC, 2 daughters, Dina “Leigh” Mayes of Carthage, NC and Rebecca “Becky” Neal (Drew) of Sanford, NC, 2 sisters, Peggy Stuart of Liberty, NC and Virginia Wyatt of Mooresville, NC, 6 grandchildren, Korey LeMaster, Gabriel Andrews, Serenity Nunnery, Gabriel Nunnery, Nathan Neal and Eli Neal as well as several aunts and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services celebrating Lex’s life will be at 4:00 P.M. Friday, May 12, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Interlachen with Bro. C.L. Overturf, Jr. officiating.
