Obituary for Cynthia DuPont

Cynthia Lee DuPont, 67, formerly of Micanopy, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, after an extended illness. Born in Oneida, NY, on January 6, 1954 and spent her early childhood in Hubbardsville, NY. Cynthia moved to Pomona Park, FL with her parents in 1970 and completed high school at Crescent City High. She worked as a nationally certified Interpreter for the Deaf for many years, giving ears, a voice, and respect to countless members of the Deaf community. She moved to her home on Lake Wauburg in Micanopy, Florida in 1991, and loved to make memories there with all her friends and family. She hiked and camped in the Great Smokey Mountains, travelled Europe and Russia, lobbied the Florida Congress for Americans with Disabilities rights, helped establish a School for the Deaf in Qalqilya, Israel for Palestinian children, completed her Bachelor’s and double Master’s degrees, singlehandedly raised four children, and had a profound impact on all those who knew her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Eleanor DuPont, brothers, Fred DuPont and John McPhearson, a sister, Marcella McMullen and her son, Christian Babcock II.
Surviving her are her children, Gerald Babcock, Christina Hamm, and Travis Babcock; her grandchildren who know her as their Nana, Amber Babcock, Caitlyn Babcock, Dylan Allen, Alexandra Babcock, Zachary Lowe, Keegan Babcock, Aaliyah Hamm, Carter Babcock, Emily Hamm, and Alexander Babcock; and her siblings, Terrance DuPont, Jeri Samu, Marion James, Esme Coward, Patsy Akins, and Pamela Walden.
