Obituary for Derrick Dewitt Chapman

Derrick Dewitt Chapman, 53, of Palatka, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Tampa and had resided in Putnam County since 1968 coming from Tampa. A “jack of all trades” and handyman, Derrick was most recently employed as a maintenance man at Corky Bell’s Restaurant in East Palatka. He had previously also worked as a drywall installer in the construction industry. In his leisure time, Derrick enjoyed fishing, sitting around campfires and had a green-thumb for plants and flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma Chapman and Merle Chapman, his mother, Patricia Timberlake and his beloved dog Cornbread.
Derrick is survived by a son, Shane Chapman of Interlachen, a sister, Teresa Wilkerson of Palatka, a nephew, Jason Wilkerson and his children, Brooklynne Troiano, Georgia Breedlove, Tanner Wilkerson and Turner Wilkerson, niece, Desiree Akins (Wesley) and their children, Dakota Akins, Dalton Akins, Dylan Akins and Dawson Akins.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bishop Clay Davis conducting. Committal services will follow at Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in the Theresa Community in Bradford County.
