Obituary for Donald Phinney

Donald L. Phinney

Donald Lee Phinney passed away peacefully in the early morning on October 9, 2022, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka, Florida.
Don was a US Navy veteran serving on submarines for more than 10 years. After leaving the Navy, Don was an entrepreneur and an innovator and while working in a management position at the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut, Don earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and shipyard management. After his retirement he lived his lifelong dream of managing a marina at the Outrigger Harbour Marina in Jensen Beach, Florida.
After being born and raised in Kansas and Missouri, Don’s love of adventure and the water led him to live in many ports of call including the Florida Keys, Connecticut, and Rhode Island where you would find him cruising on one of his boats. In addition to boating, you would often see Don driving one of his antique automobiles with a particular love of the Ford Model A.
With much love, Don is remembered and missed by his wife of 29 years, Candace Platt Phinney. He also leaves behind two sons: Tucker Phinney and Andrew Phinney; two daughters: Corlis Good and Deena Sandusky; several grandchildren; and many new and old friends.
No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Haven Hospice for their care at the end of his life; SAFE Pet Rescue, St. Augustine, Florida; or to your local animal shelter.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Donald’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com .
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
