Obituary for Dow Demetrius Reid Jr.

Dow Demetrius Reid, Jr., 84, of Hastings, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Bailey Center for Caring in St. Augustine. Born in Palatka, Dow was a lifelong resident of Hastings and had served in the Army National Guard. For many years he had been a farmer and later transitioned to be the general manager of Farmer Supply (John Deere) in Hastings. He continued working until age 81 when he retired in 2019 from Crop Production Services. Following his retirement, Dow mastered the art of building bird houses. One of Dow’s favorite past-times was his love of salt-water fishing in his restored 1984 Bass Tracker boat.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 15 years, Anne Louise Connahey and by his wife of 34 years, Margot Reid, his parents, Dow D. Reid, Sr. and Bernice Corbett Reid and 2 sisters, Alice Freeman Kline and Eloise Thomas.
Dow is survived by a daughter, Jill Carpenter (David) of St. Augustine, 2 sons, Buddy Reid (Tedra) of Hastings and Steve Reid of Hastings, 7 grandchildren, Jackie Carpenter, Tiffany Keelin (Chris), Jordan Travis Reid, Shelby Scott (Matt), Jordan Kaplan (Jason), Ian Reid and Nicholas Reid, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services celebrating Dow’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastors Jeb Smith and Tim Hall officiating. The U.S. Army will also conduct military honors. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M.
