Obituary for Edna Mae Janowski

Edna Mae Call Janowski, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2020, surrounded by family after a strong fight with dementia and congestive heart failure. Edna was born in Mocksville, NC and was the last surviving sibling of a family of 8 children. Edna was married to Joseph John Janowski for 25 years, until his death in 1981. She continued to raise their 4 teenage children and would later be blessed with 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Edna was the beloved mother of Steve Janowski (Tammy), Mark Janowski (Julie), Lisa Kneedler (John) and Cathy Villarreal (Jose). She is the cherished grandmother of Joseph Janowski (Cerissa), Anthony Frank (Jessica), Amanda Shepherd (Jake), Rachel Kendrick (Aaron) and Taylor Callahan (Robert). She is the great-grandmother, known as “GiGi” to Asher, Olive, Grady, Aurora, Crosby, Ezra, Ellie, Samuel, Raynor, Sully, and June.
Edna was raised on a farm in NC, then moved to Washington, DC at age 18 where she fell in love and married an Army man. This began life as a dedicated Army wife. She had an amazing career life that began with the American Institute of Architects and concluded with over 25 years as a medical coder and transcriber at Womack Army Hospital in Ft. Bragg, NC.
Our mother had a servant’s heart and volunteered her entire life. Edna worked with Hospice following her husband’s death, then at various nursing homes in NC and FL as well as multiple churches. Edna even volunteered at Lake Area Ministries in Keystone Heights and West Putnam Volunteer Fire Department Station 20. Edna will be remembered as a devoted wife, wonderful mother and adored grandmother. Her gift was that of service. She instilled strong Christian values in all her children and shared with us a love for Jesus. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Haven Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Putnam Volunteer Fire Dept., 104 Race Street, Hawthorne, FL 32640 and/or Lake Area Ministries, 131 NE Commercial Circle, Keystone Heights, FL 32656.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights.
