Eugene Patrick Messom, 83, of Palatka, earned his wings on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 when he was reunited with his beloved daughter, Debra Messom Brooker and Mary Eberle, Wayne Eberle, Melissa Messom and Zach Hancock. They were waiting at the gate as he entered into his new beginning. Eugene was an amazing carpenter and could build anything. He was a veteran of the U.S. military and a great provider for his family. He was the kind of man who went out of his way for everyone, never turning away anyone. We were blessed to have him as a husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He leaves behind his best friend of 61 years, Lillian Messom, his son, Gene Messom, daughter, Dawn (Vernon) Hankerson, his grandchildren, Liz (Josh), Raven (Logan), Reed, Holden, DJ, Daniel (Courtney), Jordan (Samantha), Nicholas (Taylor), Tyler, Gwyneth and lots of great-grandkids, brother-in-law, Gabe Eberle (Mary) and sister-in-law, Cheri Eberle. He was blessed with best friends: Richard Adams, Kevin Bass, a special friend Chad Thomas, also a very special son-in-law, Vernon Hankerson, who was more than that, he was his son. We love you Daddy. Our lives were changed the day God took you home.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. Friday, January 6, 2023 at Oak Hill West Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka on Friday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M.
