Frank W. Cone, Sr., 84, originally from Greenville, Florida, died peacefully in Palatka, Florida, on August 6, 2023. Although he grew up in the Big Bend area of Florida's Panhandle, he, and his wife of nearly 65 years, Dorothy "Dot" Cone, settled in Putnam County in the late 1960s.
Frank dedicated over 30 years of career service to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Forestry. He nurtured the land and fought wildfires, ending his decades of dedication as an area supervisor. Additionally, he worked part-time for the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, often working special events.
He is survived by his wife Dot; his son, Frank W. Cone, Jr. of Mayo, Florida; and his grandsons, David W. Cone (Rachel) of Tallahassee and Matthew P. Cone of Palatka. He also leaves a legacy in his great-grandchildren: Emmeline, Folsom, Lillian, and Jackson.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Mayola Cone, and his brothers, Grover "Bumpy" Cone, Jr., and Luther "Tiny" Cone.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka on Wednesday evening, August 9, from 5 to 7. Frank's life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 12, from 10–11:30 a.m., at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison, Florida. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.
