Obituary for George Edwin Knox IV

George Edwin Knox, IV, 79, of San Mateo, passed from this life on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Advent Health Care Hospice - East Florida at SFM in Palm Coast following a brief illness. Born in Palatka, George was a 1960 graduate of Palatka High School and lifelong resident of San Mateo. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. George worked as a machine repairman with Florida Furniture Industries. He was a member of the San Mateo Presbyterian Church. In later years, he had worked with Tommy Collins and Norfolk Southern Railroad as a fishing guide. In addition to his love for fishing, George also enjoyed hunting and was well-known for his story-telling and sharing his “tall-tales”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George E. “Red” Knox, III and Nellie Usina Knox.
George is survived by a sister, Ginger Knox of Flagler Beach and numerous cousins.
Graveside services will be Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. at San Mateo Cemetery with Dr. Robert J. Mills officiating. The U.S. Air Force will also render military honors. No visitation is scheduled.
