Obituary for Gerald Brian Haverkamp

Gerald Brian Haverkamp, loving husband and father, passed away suddenly at his home on February 22, 2021 at the age of 77. He was born in Cincinnati, OH to the late Alvin H. and A. Henryetta Haverkamp.
Gerry and his siblings grew up in Brownsburg, IN. He moved to Pompano Beach in 1965, worked as a machinist for Sunbeam for 4 years, then joined the Pompano Beach Fire Department in 1969. He retired as a Lieutenant in March 1990 after 20 years of service. Gerry and Nancy were married June 8, 1974.
He was an accomplished woodworker and made beautiful furniture for his family and friends. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. Gerry was an avid racing fan. He enjoyed his trips to the Brickyard with friends and family. He likewise loved old style country music played very loud and listened to Rush Limbaugh every day for three hours.
He is preceded in death by his brother, James Haverkamp and his wife, Beverly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Haverkamp, daughter, Rebecca Soukup (Jason), sons, Ted Shoaf, Tom Shoaf, and Scott Shoaf (Abby), brother, Stephen Haverkamp (Sarah), sister, Jane Dequenne (John), granddaughters, Harper Soukup, Alyssa Young, Stacie Bell and Gaby Marrero, grandsons, Nicholas Shoaf and Richard Aviles, 3 great-grandsons, and many loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Ricky Bybee officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. until time of services.
