James R. “J.R.” Burkes, 62, of Palatka, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center from complications of the Covid 19 Virus. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, “J.R.” worked many years in the construction industry. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed mud boggin. “J.R.” also loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Burkes and Billie Burkes as well as a brother, John Burkes.
“J.R.” is survived by his wife of 45 years, Becky Burkes of Palatka, his children, Jay Burkes (Dixie), Brandi Oary (Matt), Belinda Vandevander (David) and Amber Burkes, 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Emily, Morgan, Marissa, Mason, Mayci, Hayley, Logan, Brailynn, Dustin and Ashley, 4 great-grandchildren, Maverick, Kinady, Waylon and Braxten, 4 siblings, Judy Cannon, Jerry Burkes (April), Gene Burkes (Ann) and Deborah Pacetti (Buck).
Services celebrating “J.R.”’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2021 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Mike Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
Due to concern with the Covid 19 Virus, all attending are requested to wear a facial covering when not practicing social distancing.
