Obituary for James Edward Herring

James “Jim” Edward Herring, 72, of Palatka, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at his home following a long illness. Jim was born in Savannah, GA to Jeff and Vivian Herring. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a bachelor’s degree and got a MBA from Emory University. He resided in Palatka since 1973 moving here from South Carolina where he was employed with Burlington Industries. Jim was employed as an accountant, comptroler and cost analysist among other financial positions with Hudson Pulp and Paper/GP for 43 years.
Jim was an extremely generous man who loved his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, boating, reading and spending time with his beloved wife Judy who he was married to for 21 years.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Temple, his parents, nephew, Jonathan Toland and niece, Temple Toland.
He is survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and Don Toland, who were his closest friends. He is also survived by his niece and caretaker, Khristi Toland (Shawn Barnard), great-nieces, Samantha Harvey (RJ) and Natalie Toland and great-nephews, Zachary Rodgers (Victoria) and Nicholas Toland.
An interment of his ashes will take place at a later date at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Father Bob Marsh officiating.
Memorial donations are greatly appreciated and can be made in Jim’s name to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 370, Palatka, FL 32178.
