Obituary for James F. Reyes

James F. “Jim” Reyes, 75, of Palatka, passed from this life on Friday, April 9, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center following a long illness. He was a direct decent of the Minorcan family that came and settled in St. Augustine in the early 1700’s. Born in St. Augustine, Jim was a 1964 graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Augustine. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp where he served and continued in the reserves for 6 years. Jim then began serving with the St. Augustine Beach Police Department until transferring to the Palatka Police Department and then transitioned to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in 1969. After several years with the PCSO, Jim owned and operated several businesses including a Bail Bondsman Agency, Comtel Alarm Security and was currently operating ABC Answering Service. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palatka. Years back, Jim enjoyed developing film at Leonard’s Studio in St. Augustine. Flying was also an interest Jim enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aguiar and Dorothy Reyes.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lee V. Reyes of Palatka, 2 daughters, Susan Howard (Gerald) of Palatka and Jennifer Villalobos (Brian) of St. Augustine, 2 sons, Christopher Reyes (Terri) of Palatka and Daniel Reyes (Jennell) of St. Augustine, a brother, Wayne Reyes (Judy) of St. Augustine, a sister, Debbie Reyes (Sharon) of Granite Falls, NC, 11 grandchildren, Jonathan Edwards, Kirsten Walker (Joseph), Austin Edwards (Jessica), Matthew Edwards (Sarah), Sierra Edwards, Kaley Levine (Wesley), Nathaniel Reyes, Jozie Reyes, Gabriell Reyes, Cody Reyes and Robert Villalobos, 5 great-grandchildren, Solomon Walker, Gianna Walker, Noah Walker, Abigail Edwards and Adeline Edwards as well as several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services celebrating Jim’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 23, 2021 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Palatka with Father Robert F. Marsh, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mark’s Memorial Gardens.
