Obituary for James Albert "Woody" Woodard

James Albert “Woody” Woodard, 93, of Palatka, passed from this life on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Lake Byrd, Florida, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a merchant marine. Woody moved from Lake City to Putnam County in 1977 where he worked as a machine operator in Tissue Converting at Georgia Pacific Paper Mill. An outdoorsman, Woody also enjoyed farming, raising cattle and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Albert Woodard and Rubye Ellison Woodard as well as 2 brothers, Jackie Woodard and Sylvester “Buck” Woodard.
Woody is survived by his children, Neil Woodard (Dana) of East Palatka, Joe Woodard of Lake City, Gary Woodard of Interlachen and Patricia Verner (Carl) of Interlachen, his siblings, Preston Woodard of Palatka, Corrine Hines of Tampa, Richard Woodard (Gwen) of San Mateo, Miriam Woodard of Orange Park, Bonnie Faye Culpepper of Tampa and Shirley Bishop (Phil) of San Mateo and 4 grandchildren, Heather Woodard, River Woodard, Gary Woodard, Jr. and Mark Verner.
Services celebrating Woody’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Terry Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka with the U.S. Army conducting military honors. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00.
