Obituary for Joanne W. Tuten

Evelyn Joanne Tuten, 87, of Palatka, passed from this life on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka. She was born December 24, 1932 to Thomas and Evelyn Waits. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William H. “Bill” Tuten Sr., son Thomas D. “Tommy” Tuten, two sisters Tommie Lou Butler and Martha Childers and son-in-law, Jon S. Robbins. Joanne is survived by two sons, Jonathan W. “Jon” Tuten of Palatka and William H. “Billy” Tuten Jr. (Holly) of Sugar Land, TX and daughter, Sandra T. “Sandy” Robbins of Weston, FL; sister, Penny Bellas (Lew) of St. Augustine, four grandchildren, Matthew Robbins, Mary Beth Robbins (Rob Nagy), Blakely Tuten and Will Tuten and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Cameron, Caleb and Callie Nagy. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was a 1949 graduate of Mellon High school and soon after met the love of her life Bill. They were married for 67 years. Joanne cherished her time as a school crossing guard with the Putnam County Sherriff’s office at the Melon & St Johns and St Johns and Palm Avenue from 1983 – 2004. She truly enjoyed all the families and children through the years and seeing them grow into young adults. Also a volunteer at Putnam Community Medical Center for over twenty years leading her to log 3081 hours. When she wasn’t working or volunteering you could find her at her second love…bridge. She was a long time player at the Palatka Duplicate Bridge Club. Joanne was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka. She cherished so many of her friendships through the years with each of these and while they were very important to her, she treasured her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews most of all. She will be deeply missed by those that knew her.
Due to concerns with COVID 19, memorial services will be announced at a later date in 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Palatka, 123 S. 2nd St., Palatka, FL 32177.
