Obituary for John Davis "Jack" Dabney

John Davis “Jack” Dabney, 89, of Keystone Heights, died peacefully following an extended illness on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Putnam Caregivers in Palatka. Jack was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Throughout his years, he lived in Birmingham, AL; Huntsville, AL; Columbia, TB; Christiansburg, VA. He moved to Gainesville, FL in 1978 and spent his retirement years in Keystone Heights, FL. Following high school, Jack joined the Army and then attended Auburn University. He worked as a building contractor for 50 years. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, camping, golfing and was always involved with various church activities. He was an avid Auburn fan!
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62, years, Nancy Richardson Dabney.
Surviving his legacy are his children: Dave (Sherry) Dabney of Helena, AL; Dawn (Mike) Akers of Palatka, FL; Dean (Donna) Dabney of Palatka, FL; Dana (Jeff) Grant of Keystone Heights, FL; Drew (Holly) Dabney of Gainesville, FL; Doug (Tammy) Dabney of Gainesville, FL; a brother-in-law, John W. Richardson of Bargersville, IN; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and his companion, Bettye Zowarka.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2020 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 200 Main Street, Palatka, FL with the Reverend Robert F. Marsh, Jr. and the Reverend Tony Powell officiating.
