Obituary for John Aldon Murrow

John A. Murrow, 74, of Bannerville, passed from this life on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of Palatka, John was a 1963 graduate of Mellon High School. He retired from Georgia Pacific in 2008 following 38 years of service as a lime kiln operator. John was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Palatka. In addition to hunting and fishing, John’s greatest passion was time spent with his wife, his sons, grandchildren and any family functions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas C. Murrow and Dorothy Knowles Murrow, a sister, Dessie Langford and 2 brothers, Sonny Murrow and Butler Murrow.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane Murrow of Bannerville, 4 sons, Nick Murrow (Wendy) of Titusville, Jamie Murrow (Tracy) of East Palatka and Jerry Murrow (Tara) of Jacksonville and Chester Cherry (Tracy) of Bannerville, 2 brothers, Fred Murrow (Nadine) of Bannerville and Stacey Murrow of Hawthorne, 2 sisters, Betty Mullins and Jeannell Carroll (Richard) of Bannerville, 12 grandchildren, Ashley Chaffin (Jeff), Kaitlyn Gallagher (Cory), Jonathon Murrow, Whitney Murrow, Blair Barring (Bill), Jarrett Murrow (Jasmine), Emma Murrow, Jathan Murrow, Alexis Armstrong (Scott), Makayla Murrow, Madison Murrow and Mallory Murrow and 5 great-grandchildren, Brantley Gallagher, Paislee Gallagher, Brooks Gallagher, Cora Chaffin and Lillie Murrow.
Services celebrating John’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Southside Baptist Church in Palatka with Pastors Shaun Thomas, Rudy Howard, Glenn Martin and Wayne Geck officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until the time of services at 11:00 A.M.
