Oscar J. “John” Thompson, 68, of Hollister, passed from this life on Friday, August 21, 2020 at UF Health Shands in Gainesville following a brief illness. Born in East Palatka to John Calvin Thompson and Dollie Davis Thompson, he was a 1969 graduate of Palatka High School. John had worked several jobs over the years including with the Jacksonville Shipyards and at Desco Marine. He had also worked in residential construction as a project manager, supervisor and his last position as an estimator. In his spare time, John enjoyed fishing and shooting (target practice).
John is survived by his fiancé, Barbara Brightwell of Hollister, a daughter, Christel Thompson of Boston, MA, a brother, Donald Thompson (Linda) of Hollister, his extended family, Brian Brightwell, Alex Brightwell (Kristina), Haven Brightwell and Alexis and Aiden Gavin.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Oak Hill West Cemetery with Pastor Pete Wilkinson officiating. No visitation is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 188, Hollister, FL 32147.
