Katherine L. Phillips
Katherine Lacey Phillips, born February 25, 1926, passed away on July 29th, 2022, at the age of 96. Katherine was born in Loxley, Alabama to Louis and Lillie Lacey. She shared her birthday with her twin brother, John who was born right after her. Her household was a busy one, with two older twin brothers (Lewis and Ozeme) and her older brother George, who was the middle child. They lived on a dairy farm where they constantly had many humorous adventures in an old Spanish style hotel that her grandparents remodeled into a home. Over the years, she has kept us entertained with her stories of family life on the farm.
Katherine met William Howard Phillips after WWII and they were married April 14th, 1950. It was truly a love match that lasted 52 years. In 1951, their daughter Connie was born at their first home in Pensacola, Florida.
In 1959, the family moved to Palatka, Fl. Katherine was an avid fisherwoman and she quickly fell in love with the rivers and the ocean nearby. She fished until she could no longer. She made plenty of her famous, “last casts” which would last hours! Katherine was extremely athletic and also enjoyed playing golf in the Women’s League in Palatka and made many lifelong friends there. As many people know, Katherine could also build or fix ANYTHING! She was an unstoppable force as she built her own workshop & boat port, (to name a few). She was also the family's go-to for any home repairs from plumbing to roofs and she loved to supervise anyone who did any work for her. Katherine loved a good joke and always liked to keep everyone around her on their toes. Her humor, funny remarks, and facial expressions will be missed by us all.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband; William “Bill” Phillips, her parents; Louis and Lilly Lacey, her brothers; Lewis, Ozeme, George, and John Lacey, and various other family members.
Katherine is survived by her daughter; Constance (Connor) Daniles, her grandchildren; Lacey Hawk (Devan), and Beau Daniels (Katie), and her great- grandchildren; Austin Smith and Payton Velez.
Katherine was of the Catholic faith and has been a faithful member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Palatka, Fl. since moving here.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Anthony Bonela as celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery.
