LaPatra K. Dompe, 84, of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness. She was born in Georgetown, FL and had been a lifelong resident of Putnam County. LaPatra lived on a houseboat on the St. Johns River with her family and had attended Crescent City High School. She later earned a secretarial degree in Tampa. LaPatra had worked as a purchasing agent for Georgia Pacific and retired after more than 35 years of service. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, dancing, shopping and canning. LaPatra’s greatest joy was being involved in all of her family’s extracurricular activities and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son, Harold Kelley, infant son, Herbert Kelley, II, parents, Hester and Gladys Starling and sister, Gaynell Starling.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, John Dompe, son, Michael Kelley (Angela), step-children, Denise Derea (Mike) and Marjorie Waggy, brother, David Starling (Cathy), grandchildren, John Kelley (Ashley), Brandon Kelley (Christina), Chris Kelley (Mallorie), Steven Kelley (Alisha), Tyler Kelley (Abby) and Magen Kelley (Steven), as well as numerous great-grandchildren, niece, Alisha Gipe, nephew, Tony Bennett (Sue) and great-nieces and nephews, cousins and other extended family members whom she loved dearly.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. C.L. Overturf, Jr. and Bro. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. No public visitation is scheduled.
