Obituary for Larry Lee Mickelson

Larry Lee Mickelson, 76, of Ft. McCoy, passed from this life on Friday, November 10, 2023 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Granite City, Illinois, he resided in Fort McCoy since 2016 moving there from St. Cloud where he lived for 19 years. Prior to St. Cloud, he lived 30 years in St. Petersburg, FL. Larry served honorably in the U.S. Air Force as a Military Police during the Vietnam War. He had worked many years in the Tele-Communications Industry as an Installer / Repairman with GTE and later with Century Link. Larry was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Palatka. Among his many past-times were boating, fishing, tennis, golfing, watching football (especially the Minnesota Vikings) and going on cruises where he enjoyed gambling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Mickelson and Erma Beach Mickelson.
Larry is survived by his wife of 32 years, JoAn Mickelson of Ft. McCoy, 2 daughters, Jennifer Herban (Scott) of Largo and McKayla Mickelson of Seattle, WA, 4 step-children, Billy Sexton, Debra Owens (Larry), Penny Sexton and Sheila Wilson, 2 brothers, Jerry Mickelson of MN and Dale Mickelson of St. Cloud, 3 grandchildren, Alex Herman, Ashley Herman and Jessie Herman and 4 step-grandchildren, Krystal Olea, Jason Wilson, Mark Wilson and Shamus Bryant.
Services celebrating Larry’s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Ron Paige officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services at 3:00 P.M. Burial with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Air Force will be at 12:30 P.M. Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
