Leon Franklin Wells, Sr., 83, of Palatka passed from this life on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Palatka Rehab following an extended illness. He was born in Welaka and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. Leon worked at Handy Way retiring after 29 years and had also done many jobs throughout the years for his family. Leon loved fishing, working in his garden and going to the beach to throw his net and catch mullet. He also loved to shrimp at the city dock. Leon loved his animals and greatly loved his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Leah Ann Wells, parents, Robert S. and Lucille Wells, brother, Ronnie Wells, and sisters, Faye Ross and Joann Sapp.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Wells, son, Leon Franklin Wells, Jr., daughter, Katina Wells Carroll (Samuel, Sr.), sister, Joyce Wells Laseter (George), brother, John Wells, grandchildren, Amanda Gilyard, Kayla Gilbert, Lacey Smith, Heather Merwin, Brook Russell, Brittany Carroll, Wyatt Carroll, Kirstie Carroll and Kylie Wells as well as 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 12:00 on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Rick McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill West Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am until time of services.
At the request of the family, it will be mandatory for all who attend to wear a mask.
