Obituary for Mark Thomas Elam

Mark Thomas Elam, 44, of Crescent City, passed from this life on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Putnam Community Medical Center from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. A native of Modesto, California, Mark served honorably for 4 years as a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corp. In 2000, following his time in service to country, Mark moved to Crescent City. After receiving his AA degree from the corrections academy at the St. Augustine Technical Center in 2003, Mark began a career with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office as a corrections deputy. Sheriff Gator DeLoach posthumously promoted Mark to the rank of Captain that he was due to receive in May. He was also a member of the Dive Team with the Sheriff’s Department as well as a member of Hastings Masonic Lodge #183. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, diving, shooting (target practice) and taking rides on his motorcycle with Lachrisha . Mark was a loving and dedicated husband and father to his wife and family and cherished time he had to spend with them and his beloved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rodney J. Elam.
Mark is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lachrisha Elam of Crescent City, his mother, Barbara Malm of Modesto, CA, his children, Brandon Elam (Jen), Cody Elam (Cassidy) all of Crescent City, Isaiah Sharon-Elam, (Pvt) USMC – 29 Palms, CA , Hannah Sharon-Elam, Charlene Sharon-Elam, Gavin Sharon-Elam, Jonathan Sharon-Elam and Olivia Sharon-Elam, all of Crescent City, 3 brothers, Randy Elam (Nicole) and Truman Elam (Katie) all of Mulvane, KS and Travis Elam of Crescent City, a sister, Danielle Malm of Modesto, CA, mothers-in-law, Genia Lindberg (Charles) of Satsuma and Sue Harris of Pomona Park, aunt, Sue Ollis of Stanley, NC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Mark’s life will be at 4:00 P.M. Monday, April 12, 2021 at Coventry Oaks Farm, 104 Springside Cutoff Road, Palatka, with Pastor Larry Harris officiating. The U.S. Marine Corp and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department will render military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-7 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, 307 S. Palm Ave. in Palatka.
