Obituary for Mary Joann Thompson
Mary Joann Thompson passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27th, 2023 at Haven Roberts Hospice Care Center, in Palatka, FL. She was a resident of Florida for over 70 years. Joann was born in Parke County, IN on October 12, 1935, to the late Robert L. and Mary E. Thompson.
She was an active member of the Palatka Horsemen’s Club for several years, where she excelled at Barrel Racing. In her later years, Joann worked at General Electric Battery Products Section in Gainesville, FL. She was also caretaker at several Florida State Parks. Joann was a Blue Star Mother five times over; all five of her sons served in the military.
She is survived by her sons Byron Pafford of Syracuse, NY; Michael Pafford of Woodlawn, VA; David Pafford of Noxon, MT; Steven Pafford of St. Augustine, FL; and Bennett Pafford of Bishop, CA. Joann is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
A service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday April 7, 2023, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Jesten F. Peters officiating.
