Obituary for Myrle Jean Masters

Myrle was born in Jacksonville, FL on September 20th, 1929 to parents Herman and Myrtle Hodges and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She married Francis Leo “Son” Masters, and they raised their family starting first in Jacksonville, then in nearby Green Cove Springs, FL. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness on Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Myrle was predeceased by her parents and husband, as well as her brother, Buddy Hodges. She is survived by her children, Steve Masters (Debbie) of Big Pine Key, FL, Joni Suggs (Roger) of Green Cove Springs, FL and Julie Masters Suggs (Terry) of East Palatka, FL, granddaughter Kelli Kaufman (Aaron) and grandson, Jay Crossley. She is also survived by her sister, Gayle Masters and brother George “Randy” Hodges (Edi), all of Green Cove Springs, and two dear great grandsons, Kellan and Kole, along with many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Myrle focused her life on her family, and loved to cook and feed anyone who visited her home. She especially loved talking about her family and telling stories about older generation relatives. She has kept her family’s history alive by passing these down to younger family members. While raising her own children in Jacksonville, Myrle had an in-home daycare and helped raise and love many children. Myrle also had a long and fulfilling career in real estate, working with Watson Realty in Orange Park, FL after her move to Green Cove Springs.
