Obituary for Onyx Isaiah "Toad" Hebert

Onyx Isaiah “Toad” Hebert, 3 year-old son of Shawn Hebert and Heather Bass, was taken into the Arms of Jesus on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital following a life-long illness. Onyx was born June 12, 2019 at UF Health Shands in Gainesville with a defective heart. A strong and tough little guy, Onyx endured multiple major procedures including a pacemaker, an artificial heart as well as 2 heart transplants in his short lifespan. He was definitely a “Mommy’s Boy” but loved all his family and enjoyed time spent with them at Disney World where he especially enjoyed the ending fireworks display. Among the things that interested “Toad” were things of learning, identifying colors and numbers as well as playing on the trampoline and swing. He also enjoyed watching “Ms Rachel”, “Blippi” and Mickey Mouse.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Opal Dawn Bass, an uncle, Shelby Scott Hebert, as well numerous maternal and paternal great-grandparents.
Onyx is survived by his parents, Shawn Hebert and Heather Bass of Palatka, his siblings, Aden Hebert, Opal Samball and Athena Hebert, maternal grandfather, Kevin Bass (Diana) of Francis, Paternal grandparents, Jay and Terri Hebert of Palatka and Kim Bolen of Palatka, Paternal Great-Grandmother, Alice Hebert of Palatka, Paternal Great-Grandfather, Harvey Champion of Palatka and numerous aunts, uncles and other extended family members.
Services celebrating Onyx’s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Pastor Dale Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery (East). The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
