Ovie Willard Hunter, Sr., 57, of Palatka, passed from this life on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Community Hospice Bailey Center in St. Augustine following an extended illness. Born in St. Augustine, he resided in the St. Augustine, Green Cove Springs and Palatka area his whole life. Ovie loved being on the water and had worked as a commercial fisherman. He had also worked as a block layer. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed building trot lines and rebuilding and refurbishing boats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Willard Hunter and Lennie Pressler Hunter, a son, Bobby Joe Hunter, 3 brothers, Leslie, Johnny and Joe Hunter and 2 sisters, Norma Davidson and Manius Hunter.
Ovie is survived by his wife of 39 years, Brenda Hunter, 3 daughters, Rebecca Jones (Anthony), Amanda Ijon (Octavio), Heather Hansen (Luther),2 sons, Ovie Hunter (Maranda) and Brian Hunter (Danielle), 2 brothers, Calvin Hunter (Lee) and Harvey Hunter (Sherry), 3 sisters, Mendora Davis (Junior), Blanche Leonard (Jerry) and Edith Spears, 11 grandchildren, Chuckie Jones, Brandon Wagenaar, Shelby Wagenaar, Carley Hansen, Samantha Hansen, Luther Hansen, Jr., Hunter Hansen, Jackson Hunter, Malinda Hunter, Novaleigh Hunter and Tanner Hunter as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid 19 virus, private family visitation will be held.
