Peter Guy Prater was born in Palatka, Florida March 23, 1966. He is preceded in death by his father, James T. Prater, and his sister Mary Margaret Prater Patzke (Wally). He is survived by his mother, Anise Whitaker Prater of Tallahassee, brother, Jimmy Prater of Tallahassee and sister, Susan Prater DeBeaugrine (Jim) of Tallahassee.

Peter is a 1988 graduate of EH Miller School in Palatka. He worked for the Putnam County School system prior to moving to Tallahassee in 2000. He has spent the past 30 + years as the number 1 fan of the FSU Seminoles. While living in Tallahassee he achieved many accomplishments. He graduated from Lively Vo-Tech with a certificate in culinary arts and was a long-standing member of "Tallahassee Talkers" Toastmasters and served as V.P. of Public Relations for the regional Toastmasters.

Peter was an outstanding advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout his lifetime. He taught many about the importance of treating people with respect, dignity, and the importance of including all individuals their communities.

Peter is also survived by his nieces Beth Gibson (Donnie) of Jacksonville; Taylor Prater-Melcher (Dylan Melcher of Tampa; Marlo Prater-Jones (Trey) of Jacksonville; Catherine Prater DeBeaugrine of Tallahassee and Evans Prater of Asheville and several great nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating Peter’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Dr. Robert J. Mills officiating. Burial will follow at Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm until time of services.
