Obituary for Rex Allen Smith

Rex Allen Smith, 63, of Interlachen, passed from this life unexpectedly from natural causes at his home on Friday, March 31, 2023. A native of Pontiac, Michigan, he was a 1978 graduate of Interlachen High School and returned to Interlachen in 2000 from Lake, Michigan. Rex had worked 8 years as a union carpenter. Years ago, he worked as a meat cutter at Miller’s Supermarket in Palatka and at Pic-N-Save in Palatka. Rex was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being able to show others how to master hunting and fishing like he had. A “Jack of all Trades”, Rex will forever be remembered as a “jokester” and for his story-telling. Rex also loved time with his beloved canine “Itchy”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Fred Smith and Wilma Pearl Blain Smith as well as 3 brothers, Everett Smith, Warren Smith and Lynn Smith.
Rex is survived by 9 other siblings, Nihla Hall (William) of Burton, MI, Eula Scott of Ocala, Bernard John “B.J.” Smith (Vicki) of Pinckney, MI, Duane Smith (Pontiac, MI), Terry F. Smith (Susan) and Marc Smith of Interlachen, Joyce Smith Howard (Greg) of Lake, MI, Doug Smith of Interlachen and Kristina Smith of St. Augustine and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of Rex’s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 9, 2023 at PineView Cemetery in Interlachen.
