Obituary

Rhett Timothy McCool, 18, of Palatka, Florida passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Gainesville, Florida, on June 1, 2001, Rhett attended Mellon and Kelley Smith Elementary Schools and Jenkins Middle School. In 2019, he graduated from Nease High School where he enjoyed playing football and made many friends. After high school, Rhett attended St Johns River State College and was employed at JB Glass, Inc., owned by his uncle Harley Robbins. At the time of his passing, he was employed at Beck Ford Lincoln where he was training in their Technician Development Program.
Rhett’s positivity and engaging personality was larger than life. A friend to all, he brightened every room he entered with his sweet country grin. He enjoyed the simple things- listening to music, watching movies, building a fire, riding in the woods, working on his truck, hunting and fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
Rhett had an unwavering faith in God that allowed him to overcome many obstacles. It never mattered what he faced, Rhett could find the silver lining. Though his light dimmed too early, he had truly achieved his dream of building a simple and happy life in Palatka doing what he loved most.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Timothy Simmons and Kathy Stockton. He is survived by mother Ashley McCool (Robert Bush), father Matt McCool (Kim Hood); siblings, Clay McCool, Cailene Bush, Christopher Tanner, Caylen Tanner, Catie Tanner, Carlie Tanner; great-grandmother, Margaret Campbell; grandparents Jim and Susan McCool, and Paula Simmons; aunts and uncles, Jini Robbins (Harley), Lee McCool (Jessica), Landon Stockton, Zachary Simmons (Lauren), Kyle Simmons (Sydney); many great-aunts, great-uncles, and cousins.
Due to the COVID-19 virus and the stay-at-home order issued by Gov. DeSantis, private graveside service for the family only will take place at San Mateo Cemetery will Bro. Willie McKinnon, III officiating. A public memorial service celebrating Rhett’s life may be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please see information regarding a memorial donation by visiting the Rhett McCool Memorial page on Facebook.
Memories and condolences may be expressed to the family at Rhett’s Book of Memories page at www.johnsonoverturffunerals.com.
Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.

I will miss working with you at Ford and hanging out with you on our off days from work. We were just becoming good friends and I will miss you dearly, as I know many of your friends and family will, too. I have a piece of your truck that I will cherish in your memory and I knew you loved it so much. Going to work is not the same anymore. May your soul be forever in the Lords arms and I hope that we see each other again heaven. I pray for peace and comfort for your family. Rhett was a wonderful person, full of joy, and a hard worker. I will never forget you my friend! Always, Steven “GARRETT” Queen
