Obituary for Richard Duncan Breland

Richard Duncan Breland, Sr., 87, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2020, after a brief illness. Duncan was born in East Palatka and lived his adult life in Palatka. H retired from the railroad after 42 years. Duncan was a current member of New Beginning Baptist Fellowship and a long-time member of Open Bible Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elissa Bowman Breland, son, Riki Breland of Palatka, daughter, Anjie Merritt (Todd), grandchildren, Mitchell and Tessa Merritt of Jacksonville, brothers, Ben Breland (Claudia) of Virginia, David Breland (Marilyn) of California and sister, Becky Pope of St. Augustine.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Tyson and Reece Breland and sister, Ann Harper.
Throughout his life he enjoyed working in machinery, swimming at local springs, and waterskiing, often saying he thought he had skied 1,000 miles on the river.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Palatka Memorial Gardens.
