Ridgeway Lowell Thompson, 80, of Bardin, passed from this life on Friday, March 3, 2023, at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Nicholls, GA and had lived in Putnam County since 1957. Lowell was a veteran of the US Army. He had worked for Georgia Pacific, retiring after 38 ½ years of service and was a member of Union Local #1717 of the Brotherhood of Paper Makers. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Bardin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ridgeway H. Thompson and Verna Bagley Thompson, sisters, Deverla Nettles (James) and Bobbie Jo Thompson as well as brother-in-law, Robert Landrum.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Thompson, son, Jeffrey Thompson (Jena), daughter, Rebecca Thompson Ellison (Phillip), sisters, Dewayne Landrum and Martha Gail Kerce (Donald), and 2 grandchildren, Cameron Thompson and Matthew Thompson (Emilee) and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Bro. Donald Kerce officiating. Burial will follow in Etoniah Cemetery in Bardin with Pastor Rudy Howard officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday beginning at 1:00 pm until time of services.
