Obituary for Roddy Flanders Jr.

William Reginald “Roddy” Flanders, Jr., 62, of Palatka, passed from this life unexpectedly on Monday, March 14, 2022 from natural causes. A native and lifelong resident of Putnam County, Roddy was a 1978 graduate of Palatka High School. He began working at the age of 16 as a traveling journeyman millwright with Jacksonville Union #2411. In October 1991, Roddy transitioned to working at the Georgia Pacific Paper Mill in Palatka where he still served as a master millwright. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. In addition to the love of his animals, Roddy enjoyed the outdoors and especially when hunting at Hewitt Lake, Cabbage Creek and the Miller Track Hunting Clubs. He also cherished time spent with family and cooking for them. Affectionately known as the “Unofficial Mayor of Hewitt Lake”, Roddy never met a stranger and was often found lending a helping hand with friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. “Bill” Flanders and Pat Flanders.
Roddy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Teresa Flanders, a son, Wesley Grubbs (Denise), a daughter, Abby Kelley (Tyler), all of Palatka, a sister, Marjorie Hightower (Kenny) of East Palatka, a grandchild, Ryder Grubbs and expecting a granddaughter, Ava, soon as well as 2 nieces, Amber Dwyer (Bodie) of Palatka and Melinda Hightower of St. Augustine.
An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of Abby and Tyler Kelley on Saturday, March 19th at 3:00 P.M. Come and share a Roddy story.
