Obituary

Rose Marie Cook Champion, 76, of Grandin, passed from this life unexpectedly at her home from natural causes on Sunday, February 14, 2021. A native of Florahome, she was a 1962 graduate of Melrose High School and was a lifelong resident of Putnam County. Rose began work in data programming at the Hudson Pulp and Paper Company. After raising a family, she made a career as a sales associate at Wal-Mart for many years. Rose was a very active and dedicated member of the Florahome United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer and in other capacities. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Rose also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Champion Sr., a brother, Fred R. Cook Jr. and a sister, Carol Shoemaker.
Rose is survived by two sons, Carl E. Champion, Jr. (Diana) of Burlington, NJ and Paul Champion (Vanessa) of Grandin, three sisters, Alice Peacock (Billy) of Florahome, Fredna Carter (Vernon) of Battlefield, MO, and Ruth Spencer (Tommy) of Middleburg and five grandchildren, Chaise Champion, Chance Champion, Carly Champion, Katy Champion, and Charlie Champion.

Rose and I were best friends and step cousins, we shared so much together all thru school. We graduated together in 1962 and when Rose and Carl got married i was her bridesmaid. Over the years as we had our families and our different paths we took, we did not see each other very much, but we new each of us were only a phone call away and we always felt connected by our everlasting friendship. Just a few days before Rose passed away I had memories of our younger days and was going to call her, oh how I wish that I had, just to talk to her one last time. Lesson learned when you feel you should call a loved one please do as we never know if it will be the last time we talk or see them. I will always have so many good memories of Rose. Love you always my dear friend. Til we meet again love Kathy Cumbus
