Sandra Martin “Sandy” Harkey, 71, of Port St. Lucie and formerly of Palatka, passed from this life on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Advent Health Wesley Chapel following a brief illness. She was a native of West Palm Beach and had lived in Port St. Lucie since 1980 coming from Palatka. Sandy had worked as an Administrative Specialist in Planning and Zoning for Martin County retiring after 37 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Palatka and had also attended Port St. Lucie Baptist Church. Sandy enjoyed antiquing, going to the beach and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother and was happiest when spending time with her family. Sandy was an exceptional listener and will be affectionately known as being everyone’s mom.
She is preceded in death by her father, Donald L. Martin.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 51 years, Walter Lee Harkey of Port St. Lucie, son, Jason Harkey of Land O’ Lakes, her mother, Patricia B. Martin of Palatka, siblings, Donald E. Martin of Howie In The Hills, Julia Hancock (Kitt) of Deland, and Russell Martin (DeDe) of Hastings, grandchildren, Cade and Teagan Harkey as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Dr. Vernon Harkey officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday beginning at 5:00 pm until time of services.
