Obituary for Sara D Grochmal

Sara Dykes Grochmal, 96, of San Mateo, passed from this life on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at her home following a long wonderful life. She was known for her beautiful smile and bright blue-gray eyes. Born in San Mateo, Sara lived most all her life in San Mateo except for a brief time in Macclenny where she graduated from Baker County High School in 1941. Sara worked 25 years as a clerk at the old Checkerboard Feed Store. She was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Palatka as well as Senior Friends and the Singles Club where she served as treasurer. In her leisure time, Sara enjoyed sewing, reading. dancing and especially fishing. She was most happy when people came to visit, especially babies. They would light up her world. She will be dearly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Zigmund A. Grochmal, a son, Marvin Morris Brown, her parents, Walter Dykes and Della Rogero Dykes and 1 brother, Wiley Dykes, Winter Park and 1 sister, Willie Lee Farrow, Ocala.
Sara is survived by a son, Walter Glenn Brown (Deckie) of San Mateo, a daughter, Frances Annette Brown of St. Augustine, a dearly beloved sister, Patricia Kilgore (Jimmy) of San Mateo, 4 grandchildren, Dawn Wesley, Dena Maynard (Michael), Darrell Gardner (Vicki) and Melissa Gardner, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous other extended family.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 3, 2020 at St. Monica Catholic Church with Father Ron Camarda as celebrant. Burial will follow at San Mateo Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the family home following the service. 358 East End Road, San Mateo. No public visitation is scheduled.
Due to concerns with the Covid 19 virus, all attending the services at the church are required to wear face masks.
