Obituary for Sara Dell Pines
Our beloved mother, Sara Dell Pines, 82, of Palatka, Florida passed away September 20, 2022, at home with her family by her side following a short battle with lung cancer. She was born to the late Floyd G. and Leo Mines Tingle, August 26, 1939, in Milledgeville, Georgia. Sara graduated high school from Smith-Hughes Evening School in 1957 and received a BA in Business Administration from Jacksonville University in 1993.
She was married to the late Richard Phillips Pines, Jr. in 1960, and they lived together in Jacksonville, Florida for 24 years until relocating to Palatka, Florida in 1984. Sara is survived by 5 children: Suzanne and Scott Buehrer, Virginia Callahan of Niobrara, Nebraska, Victoria Lasserre of New Orleans, Louisiana, Stephanie and Pete Simonds of East Palatka, Florida and James Pines of Palatka, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Corrine and Gary Wilkinson, Mark and Dorothy Lasserre, Jesse Pines, David Lasserre, Jenna Simonds, Jake Rodriguez, Jeremy Simonds and her great-grandchildren: Natalie, Taylor, and Brooke Wilkinson; and Ivory Lasserre. Sara was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard, in 2000.
She retired from the Army Corp of Engineers as a Contracting Specialist. She loved to read and gave much of her time to her church.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church can be made in her name. Arrangements are entrusted to Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home of Palatka.
