Obituary for Sarah Kaiser Irvin

Sarah Kaiser Irvin, 93, of Hastings, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Bayview Samantha Wilson Care Center in St. Augustine following an extended illness. A native of Hastings, Sarah was a 1946 graduate of Hastings High School and had been a lifelong resident of St. Johns County. She had worked over 35 years as a secretary in the paper industry for St. Regis Paper Company which later became Champion and eventually International Paper Company. Sarah was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hastings where she had taught Sunday School and was involved in the Women’s Ministry. Sarah was very involved in her children’s lives and their activities. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crafts, cake decorating and spending summers in Linville Falls, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Richard E. “Dick” Irvin, Sr, her parents, Robert Fredrick Kaiser and Georgia Dancey Kaiser, a son, Richard E. “Dickey” Irvin, Jr. a daughter, Roberta Ann Fooks, 2 brothers, Fredrick Kaiser and Edward D. “Sonny” Kaiser, and a sister, Jane Chason.
Sarah is survived by a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Irvin Plunkett (Dan) of St. Augustine, 5 grandchildren, Allesha Schirmer (Chris), Leslie Goldstein (David) and Richard E. “Richie” Irvin, III (Alicia), all of St. Augustine, Ashley Franke (Mike) of Lithia, FL and Amy Saucerman, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating Sarah’s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery East. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services at 3:00 P.M.
