Obituary for Sheila Starlene Rowe

Sheila Starlene Hardee Rowe made her way to her heavenly home on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 after a lengthy illness. She had battled several complex health issues for many years.

Sheila spent her early years growing up in Deland and Jacksonville before her family settled in St. Augustine. She graduated from St. Augustine High School and St. Augustine Vocational/Tech School as an LPN. Sheila married her high school sweetheart, John Rowe, after her graduation and she would joke that that’s when she earned her PHT – Put Hubby Through – as John began attending FSU after their marriage.

In her career, she worked at several hospitals, doctors’ offices and one school where she did nursing and administrative duties. For a few years, she was a computer operator and office manager before computers were in every home or even businesses at her husband’s accounting practice.

Sheila loved music and as a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Palatka, she enjoyed donning her choir robe each Sunday and singing with the Chancel choir. She was very active in the Junior Woman’s Club of Palatka and continued charitable service with the GFWC Woman’s Club of Palatka. She had a great love for kids and enjoyed helping with the annual Elves for Kids program (formerly known as Toys for Tots). She held many local and state positions as is the current 2022-2024 Arts and Crafts exhibit chair for the state of Florida. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross, staffing hurricane shelters when needed. She was an avid reader and puzzle worker. She had a love of shopping and was always buying for family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents James Dudley Hardee and Lillian Hardee of St. Augustine, her brother James Dudley Hardee, Jr., and her sister Catherine Cecilia Hardee as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Daniel Rowe, Sr. Her children and grandchildren were the love of her life and she made it her purpose in life to help them in any way she could. She is survived by her son, John Daniel Rowe, Jr. [Danny]; her daughters Misty Rowe and Lindy Rowe Kanouse (Aaron); grandchildren Kelsey, Chase, Kylee, Kenley, Kambrie Rowe and soon to be Karis Anne Kanouse; three great grandchildren Aiden Daniel Rowe, Leilani Blaise Adams and Ayla Shae Nicole Faber. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Beth Stevens (Dennis).

Services celebrating Sheila’s life will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 14, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Palatka with Dr. Robert Mills officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the services begin at 2:00 at First Baptist Church. The family will attend a private burial at Oak Hill Cemetery scheduled for Tuesday.

Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be sent to the American Red Cross or the GFWC Woman's Club of Palatka. Checks to the Woman's club can be mailed to P.O Box 282, Palatka,FL 32178-0282. Please put "In memory of Sheila Rowe" in the memo line.
