Steven Lighton Akins was born December 2, 1945 in Akron, Ohio and left this world September 25, 2022 at home in Palatka, Florida surrounded by his closest friends. Steven grew up at a small family farm in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Being disabled wasn’t as much of a challenge to him as it was to his family. His mother, Marie Jessup, was a dynamic force that ensured Steven got the best out of himself and the most out of his life. He loved the outdoors and spent much time enjoying trees, nature, and his hammock. Steven worked at his brother’s business in the packaging department until 1988 when he moved to Florida. That’s where he met his life-long friends at the ARC in Palatka.
Steve and his family are extremely thankful for the loving home and support provided by ARC for over 30 years. We extend a special thanks to the Westover group home staff. Their kindness and compassion helped a difficult life become joyful.
