Thomas David Green, 88, of Satsuma, passed from this life on Friday, December 21, 2021 at his home from natural causes. He was born at Middle Georgia Hospital in Macon, Georgia to Mitchell Thomas Green and Josephine Gwynes Green. He attended Duncan Fletcher High School, Jacksonville University, Florida Junior College and the University of North Florida. He helped construct the Mathews and original Fuller Warren bridges in Jacksonville while working as an apprentice carpenter. He was drafted into the U.S. Army for the Korean War. David retired as Inspection Branch Manager of Facilities Management Engineering Division of the Public Works Department of the Naval Air Station Jacksonville. He also taught the Building Maintenance Program for St. Augustine Technical Center at the East Palatka campus and retired as Building Inspector for Planning and Development Department - Putnam County Board of County Commissioners. A member of Ionic Lodge #101 F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Morocco Shrine Center in Jacksonville, David was also a member of the Putnam County Shrine Club and Thunder Bird Parade unit and was likewise a member of Palatka Moose Lodge #184. David was a member of Dunn’s Creek Baptist Church and also attended St. Monica Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Ruth Barfield (Al) and a nephew, James Marshburn.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Aileen Green, a son, David J. Green, a daughter, Julie L. Moody, sisters, Joyce Marshburn (Jimmy) and Helen Wilkinson, grandchildren, Joshua D. Green, Courtney B. Green and Mitchell T. Green, great-grandchildren, Stella M. Green, Kai M. Green, Maddie Green and Christian Fuentes, nieces, Nancy A. Brown (Doug), Sheila Delongis (Nick), Susan Oxford (Bill), Brenda Pilkerton, nephews, Erby Strickland (Beth), Joe Sullivan (Lek), Fred Wilkinson, Gary Sullivan (Runa) and many cousins, grand-nieces and nephews.
Services celebrating David’s life will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with Chaplain Juan Sanchez and Father Ron Camarda officiating. Burial will follow at St. Monica Cemetery in Palatka. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home in Palatka.
The family requests all attending both the visitation and services, please wear a facial covering and practice social distancing.
