Obituary for Wayne L. O'Kane Jr.

Wayne L. O’Kane, Jr.
Wayne LaRue “Butch” O’Kane, Jr., passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at home, his wife, Elaine, by his side. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA. to Wayne L. Sr., and Alice Josephine Gamble O’Kane.

He attended St. Phillips elementary school and graduated from Langley High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Daniels. Wayne later moved to Florida, obtained his degree and worked as an assistant case manager with Stewart Marchman ACT Behavioral Health Services (previously ACT). He met his current wife, Elaine Weeks O’Kane while they both worked with SMA and they became inseparable best friends.

Wayne is survived by his wife Elaine, his sister, Elizabeth, his first wife, Nancy, and his children, Jennifer (Michael) Fenk, James (Caroline) O’Kane, and Jason (Heather) O’Kane, grandchildren; Trevor (Jillian) Fenk, Alexander Fenk, Gabriella Fenk, Andrew O’Kane & Katherine O’Kane, stepchildren; Harry “Butch” Palmer, Jr. (Shelly), Crystal Palmer, and Jeff Palmer (Krysti), step grandchildren; Courtney Palmer, Preston Palmer, & Chase Jones.

Wayne had a wonderful sense of humor and always left folks smiling, from his friends and family to his doctors and coworkers. Always left them with a joke. He was a “people” person and never met a stranger. He would engage anyone he met in conversation and had a genuine interest in what they had to say.

He enjoyed being outside in the sunshine, so gardening became one of his passions when he retired, and he spent endless hours growing all manner of plants, giving many to friends to brighten their day.

He became interested in genealogy a few years ago and was exploring his Irish roots. He had the opportunity to visit Ireland with his son several years ago and was enamored with the country and its people.

The family would like to thank the wonderful team of folks from Advent Hospice for the excellent care and support that went above and beyond. And our humble gratitude to the friends who blessed us with their support and love… visits and phone calls while he was in hospice care.

Service will be at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 22, at Johnson-Overturf Chapel in Palatka with visitation from 1:00 until service time.

In lieu of flowers, please reach out and be a blessing to someone.
